ChineseTraditionalMusicProgramofShanghaiConservatoryofMusic
ShanghaiSummerSchool2018-ChineseTraditionalMusicProgram,aShanghaiMunicipalGovernmentScholarshipProgramhostedbyShanghaiConservatoryofMusic(SHCM),willbeheldattheSHCMinJuneandJuly2018.ItaimsatbetterpromotingtheinternationaleducationoftheSHCMthroughmorediverseChinesecultureexperienceprogramforinternationalstudents.
I.Theme
Since2011,theShanghaiSummerSchool-ChineseTraditionalMusicProgramhasbeensuccessfullyheldforsevenconsecutiveyearsandachievedgoodresults.Therefore,wewillfurtherextendtheChinesemusicelementstodifferentmusicforms.The2018editionofthiseventwillfeaturethethemeofChineseTraditionalInstrumentErhu,ChineseTraditionalVocalMusicandChinesePianoWorks.
InthisSummerSchool,wewillinvitemanyprestigiouseducators,professionalperformersandmusicteachersintheabove-mentionedfieldstodeliveracomprehensiveprogramthatcombineslearning,appreciationandexperienceforinternationalstudents.
II.TimeandContents
1.Time:June11,2018-July6,2018(fourweeks)
2.MasterClass
a)AdvancedClass:PrestigiousprofessorsofChineseTraditionalInstrumentErhu,ChinesetraditionalvocalmusicandpianoWorkswilldeliveropenclassesandyoungperformersoftheSHCMwillgivetrainingcoursesforstudents.Theywillimpartthetraditionalperformingtechniques,andhelpstudentstodevelopandimprovenewperformingskillsofChinesetraditionalmusicquickly.VocalmusicandChinesePianoWorkscourseswillfocusmainlyonChinesemusicworks.
b)Beginner’sClass:BasicperformingtechniqueswillbetaughtbyyoungperformersoftheSHCMinordertoimprovethestudents’understandingofChinesetraditionalmusic.
3.Lectures:Lecturesontopicsincluding“TheArtofChineseMusic”,“TheAestheticsofMusic”and“ChineseCulture”willbedeliveredbyreputedscholars.
4.CulturalActivities:WewillorganizestudentstovisitauthenticmusicalandculturalsitesinShanghai,suchastheMuseumofOrientalMusicalInstruments,HeLutingConcertHallandShanghaiConcertHall.StudentswillalsohavethechancetoexperiencetheculturalandmusicallifeinShanghaiandsurroundingareas.
III.QuotaandGeneralApplicationRequirements
ShanghaiSummerSchool2018-ChineseTraditionalMusicProgramwillenroll20studentsintotal.Studentsenrolledwillreceiveascholarshipwhichcoversthefeefortheapplication,tuition,accommodation,activities,teachingmaterialsandcomprehensiveinsurance.
TheSummerSchoolopensonlytonon-ChinesecitizensoutsideChinabetweentheageof16and50.
TheapplicantswillbeselectedbytheorganizingcommitteebasedontheapplicationmaterialstheysubmittedandthelistofstudentsenrolledwillbepublishedonthewebsiteoftheInternationalStudentsOfficeofShanghaiConservatoryofMusic:

3.Fees
Thefeesforapplication,tuition,accommodation,activities,teachingmaterialsandcomprehensiveinsurancewillbecoveredbythescholarship,yetthemealcosts,internationalairfaresandlocaltransportationshallbebornebythemselves.

b)Alldocumentsshouldbesentbypostorbyemail.
c)ShanghaiConservatoryofMusicwillreviewtheapplicationdocuments,andsendbyposttheAdmissionNoticeandVisaApplicationFormforStudyinChinatoqualifiedapplicants(ApplicantsarerequiredtoprovideaccurateaddressinformationandphonenumberontheapplicationformtoensurethatyouwillreceivetheAdmissionNoticeandVisaApplicationFormforStudyinChina).AdmittedstudentsmustprocureaStudentVisa(X1orX2Visa)beforeenteringChinaforthisprogram.
d)StudentsenrolledshouldregisteratShanghaiConservatoryofMusiconthedatestatedintheAdmissionNotice.ThosewhofailtoregisterontimeshouldreportinadvancetotheISOof SHCMforitsconsent,oritwillbedeemedasawaiver.
e)Alltheapplicationdocumentssubmittedwillnotbereturned.
