RecruitmentProceduresforConfuciusInstituteScholarship(2014)ofMaster’sdegreeinTeachingChinesetoSpeakersofOther

Languages(MTCSOL)ofGuangdongUniversityofForeignStudies

InordertosupportthedevelopmentofConfuciusInstitutes,facilitateChineselanguagepromotionandChineseculturaltransmissionintheworld,cultivatequalifiedChineselanguageteachersandtalentedstudentsofChineselanguage,ConfuciusInstituteHeadquarters/Hanban(hereinafterreferredtoasHanban) launchesthe“ConfuciusInstituteScholarship”programtoprovidefinancialaidforstudents,scholarsandChineselanguageteachersworldwidetoproceedtoaMaster’sdegreeinTeachingChinesetoSpeakersofOtherLanguages(MTCSOL)inChineseuniversities.

GuangdongUniversityofForeignStudies(hereinafterreferredtoasGDUFS)asoneoftheunitsofMTCSOL,isnowrecruiting25ConfuciusInstituteScholarshipstudentsin2014.

I.ApplicationRequirement

1.ScholarshipforStudentsofMTCSOL（Master'sDegreeinTeachingChinesetoSpeakersofOtherLanguages）

Applicantsshallbenon-Chinesecitizensingoodhealth,agedbetween16and35(Chineselanguageteachersinpostshallbeagedbelow45).

ThescholarshipisorientedatexcellentstudentsfromConfuciusInstitutes(Classrooms),overseaslocalChineselanguageteachers,winnersofthe"ChineseBridge”ChineseProficiencyCompetitionsforForeignCollegeStudentsandforForeignHighSchoolStudents,excellentforeigncollegegraduatesmajoredinChineseandoutstandingperformersonHSKexams,toundertakeaMaster'sDegreeinTeachingChinesetoSpeakersofOtherLanguages.Thescholarshipwinnershallbeginthestudyinautumn2014,andthedurationofscholarshipistwoacademicyears.Theapplicantshouldhaveabachelordegreeoritsequivalent,getascoreofatleast180ontheHSK(level5)andascoreofatleast50ontheHSKK(intermediatelevel),andmakeawrittencommitmentstatingthathe/shewillbeengagedinChineselanguageteachingforatleast5yearsaftergraduation.Theapplicantwithaspecificteachingpostarrangedwillbegivenadmissionpriority(certificationbytheinstitutionhe/shewillteachforisrequired).Hanbanwillprovidesupportforoutstandinggraduatestoteachintheirhomecountries.

ApplicantswithHSKandHSKKscoreswillbegivenprioritytoscholarships.Winnersofthefinalsofthe“ChineseBridge”ChineseProficiencyCompetitionsforForeignCollegeStudentsandforForeignHighSchoolStudentsinChinashallarrangetheirapplicationsinaccordancewiththeprizespecifications.Repetitiveapplicationsareinvalid.

II.ScholarshipCoverageandCriteria

Scholarshipwinnersareexemptfromregistrationfees,tuition,feesforbasiclearningmaterials,accommodationfeesoncampus,andareprovidedwithaone-offresettlementsubsidy,monthlyallowance,outpatientmedicalserviceandcomprehensiveinsuranceforforeignstudentsstudyinginChina.Theone-offresettlementsubsidywillnotbeprovidedtothosewhohavestudiedinChinaformorethanhalfayearbeforebeingenrolled.

III.RecruitmentProcedures

1.Fromnowon,applicantsshouldlogontotheConfuciusInstituteScholarshipwebsiteat,setupanindividualaccount,completeandsubmittheConfuciusInstituteScholarshipApplicationFormonline,printouttheFormandsubmitittoGDUFSalongwithotherapplicationmaterials(seeArticle4)beforeMay1st,2014.

2.GDUFSisresponsibleforreviewingthequalificationofapplicantsandsubmittingtheproposedenrollmentnamelistofqualifiedcandidatestoHanbanbyMay26th,2014.

3.Hanbanwillorganizeanexpertpaneltomakethefinalselection,andpublishthenamelistofsuccessfulapplicantsontheScholarshipwebsitebyJune16th,2014.Hanbanwillalsoinformthehostinstitutesandtherecommendinginstitutions,whichwillinformtheapplicants.

4.GDUFSwill post“AdmissionNotice”,“EnrollmentInstructions”,“VisaApplicationFormforForeignerstoStudyinChina"(JW202Form)andotherrelatedmaterialstosuccessfulapplicantsthroughtheirrecommendinginstitutionsbyJuly1st,2014.

IV.ApplicationDocuments

ApplicantsshouldlogontotheScholarshipwebsite,filloutthe“ConfuciusInstituteScholarshipApplicationForm”,andattachtheelectronicfilesofthefollowingmaterials:

1.Photocopyofpassportphotopage.　

2.PhotocopiesofHSK,HSKKscorereports.

3.Notarizedhighesteducationdiplomaattained(scheduledgraduationprooforofficialproofofstudentstatus).

4.Referenceletterandletterofcommitment.TheBTCSOLScholarshipapplicantsshouldsubmitpre-admissionnoticeissuedbythehostinstitutesdesignatedbyHanban.TheMTCSOLScholarshipapplicantsarerequiredtosubmittworeferencelettersfromprofessorsorassociateprofessors(inChineseorEnglish)andawrittencommitmentstatingthattheapplicantwillbeengagedinChineselanguageteachingforatleast5yearsaftergraduation(writteninChineseandsigned).CollegestudentsmajoredinChineseincountrieswithnoConfuciusInstitutesestablishedshallsubmitareferencelettersignedandissuedbytheuniversityPresident.

5.Applicantsundertheageof18shallsubmitrelevantlegaldocumentsofentrustedlegalguardiansinChina.

6.Winnersofthefinalsofthe“ChineseBridge”ChineseProficiencyCompetitionsforForeignCollegeStudentsandforForeignHighSchoolStudentsinChinashallsubmitthecertificateofscholarship.Winnersofpreliminaryroundsofthe“ChineseBridge”ChineseProficiencyCompetitionsintheircountriesshallsubmitawardproofandareferenceletterfromtheChineseEmbassy(orConsulate)inthecompetitionarea.

7.Chineselanguageteachersshallsubmittheproofofthelengthoftimeinteachingandweeklyteachinghoursprovidedbyinstitutestheyworkfor.

V.EntranceandAnnualAppraisal

1.ThescholarshipwinnersshallregisterattheGDUFSbeforethedeadlinesetbyGDUFS.Scholarshipswillnotbereservedforthosewhodonotregisterontimewithoutreasonablecause.

2.Scholarshipswillbecanceledforthosewhocannotpassthehealthexamination.

3.StudentsforaMaster’sdegreeinTeachingChinesetoSpeakersofOtherLanguages(MTCSOL)shallbesubjecttoanannualappraisalafterbeingenrolledaccordingtothe“AnnualAppraisalProceduresforConfuciusInstituteScholarship”.Onlytheeligiblestudentsareentitledtocontinuetoreceivethescholarshipsinthefollowingyear.
